It’s that time of year again. The Central Market trucks are bringing in the green chiles from Hatch, New Mexico for the 18th Annual Hatch Green Chile Festival!
Today was the last day of the festival, so I had to make the trip out to Central Market to pick up some delicious chiles. And wow, they do not cease to amaze me! The market had just about every type of green chile food imaginable – green chile soup, green chile bread, even green chile brownies! I bought a couple packages of Roasted Hatch Chile Peppers, shipped in from the great State of New Mexico, and decided to make a hot and spicy hummus.
Not only is this spicy vegetable oh-so-tasty, but it also has several health benefits do to a little thing known as capsaicin, the active chemical stored in the veins and seeds of the pepper that gives it the heat. It helps dissolve blood clots and aids in digestion. Capsaicin actually burns calories by increasing your metabolism, as well as curbing your appetite. It has been prescribed as a drug to treat wrinkles and heart health. Capsaicin even releases endorphins in the brain, putting chile eaters in a happy mood. So go ahead, blend your way to a happier, healthier you with this green chile hummus.
