I like to consider myself somewhat of a “Junkyard Gypsy” if you will. The basement of my apartment complex is one of my favorite places to wander. The basement is where everyone in the apartment puts their bulk trash items, and it is ridiculous what some folks throw away these days! Every week or two I always find my junkyard gem, then bring it upstairs and refurbish it. I like to think of it as saving the life of a piece of furniture : )
Today I found this old, and yes a little trashy looking, coffee table. The lip around the edge of the table, along with the intricate legs and caned detail at the base caught my eye. I instantly thought this could be turned into a shabby chic design. So, I “saved” this piece of furniture and brought it upstairs.
All it needed was a little TLC – a quick cleaning with a wet rag followed by a fresh coat of spray paint. As a side note, I have noticed that it is best to use spray paint when painting wooden objects to get a clean look. I used white for this shabby chic look – and there you have it, a fresh “new” coffee table for my apartment.
Are you a Junkyard Gypsy? Tell me about your latest trash to treasure find!
