I will be the first to admit it, this week I have been craving something a little heartier than your average veggie dish.
So, first it was the Not-Tuna Pâté , and now I’m rolling out with another meatless “meat.” Dishes, such as these, that are made to taste like burgers, tuna, chicken or any other type of meat are great for all those new to the vegetarian or vegan diet – it allows your mouth to get that same, hearty texture of a classic burger or chicken breast with all the flavor and none of the added hormones!
For that reason, if you are looking for a dish to cook for a non-vegetarian friend, I recommend using a recipe from the meatless meat list. These dishes are a little more filling than your average vegetarian meal and give your tastebuds the sensation of biting into a tasty, familiar meaty flavor.
Just an important side note, the burger patties used in this recipe are vegetarian, NOT vegan; however, MorningStar does have a new vegan patty you can feel free to use instead.
Ingredients (yields 2 meals):
- 1 heart of romaine lettuce
- 2 morningstar black bean burger patties
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1/2 small onion, chopped
- 1/2 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 avocado
- 3 tbsp salsa
This is a quick and easy recipe. It just takes about 10-15 minutes total prep and cooking time.
Place the thawed burger patties, chopped bell pepper and onion in a pan and saute on medium-high heat for about 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in garlic powder and sliced avocado. Finally, top this dish off with some spicy salsa.
Wrap this mixture into you heart of romaine lettuce wraps (forming taco shells out of the lettuce), and you have got yourself a tasty dinner!
