Wow, it has been two years to the day since I traded in my high heels for a pair of sneakers and left Capitol Hill to start a new adventure (or maybe continue an old adventure) in Texas.
I’ve been getting my fall teaching schedule squared away and working on a fitness schedule for myself. This will be a busy semester, as I am teaching undergraduate classes, taking graduate classes and working as a fitness instructor at our campus Recreation Center (whoop!). What a blessing to have the chance to do everything I love!
It is always so refreshing and humbling to take a moment and reflect on where the Lord has taken you and where He has you now.
Four years ago, I came to DC as a wide-eyed college intern, ready to learn so much about politics and the government. That summer, I decided I wanted to work on Capitol Hill and be a Scheduler for a Congressman. After graduating, I did just that – I moved to our great nation’s Capitol and worked my way up from Staff Assistant… to Office Manager…. to Scheduling Assistant… and finally, my dream job, Scheduler & Executive Assistant to a high-ranking Member of Congress.
I had so much fun in DC, and am so thankful that the Lord helped me accomplish this dream. I enjoyed always being in the “political know,” attending and planning high-profile parties, working long hours (well, maybe I didn’t always enjoy the long hours), and meeting so many wonderful friends along the way. That is a part of my life I will truly never forget, and do not regret one bit!
However, I could not be more happy that I returned to my great homeland… Home Sweet Texas :) with my sweet friends and southern family. It has been a blessing to work in the health and fitness industry – doing what I love and loving what I do! I am so honored to teach students the science of fitness, ways to take care of their health, and how to treat their bodies like true temples of the Holy Spirit.
Last December I graduated with my Master of Science degree in Health Education. I thought all my studies would stop there, but I fell in love with learning more about the human body and ways to educate others about fitness and nutrition, so I have decided to get my PhD in Health Education, so hopefully (fingers-crossed) two years from now, in August 2017, I will be graduating with my doctorate.
I am so thankful for where God has taken me, and excited for these next two years to see what else He has in store for us all!
