When living on a plant-based diet, protein is a big concern for a lot of folks… I know it is for me. With the help of some friends, I have recently discovered sacha inchi, a plant native to Peru and a great source of protein for a plant-based diet. Just 2 tablespoons of this superfood powder contain 12 grams of protein! And even better, unlike many other protein powders, sacha inchi is 100% natural and organic, extracted straight from the sacha inchi seed.
The powder actually has a somewhat nutty flavor, making a great addition to breakfast smoothies or warm soups for a little depth of flavor. Eva Seed (the company that makes this powder) also sells an oil packed with Omega 3,6 and 9. Here is a little history about the origin of this healthy food.
“Sacha Inchi contains high amounts of Omegas 3 and 6 as well as some omega 9. It also considered very high in vitamin E. Due to archeological findings, it is believed that sacha inchi was grown and consumed by the ancient Incans. The Incans were known for their craftsmanship with stone and especially their great strength. Some may attribute their power to this wonderful plant’s life-giving nutrients. Through the centuries, it became virtually lost until being rediscovered in the late 20th century. What many people are just now discovering is how tasty and healthy this food really is.” –Eva Seed
